Historical Romance

Historical romance has had a bad rap recently. It has been given the derogatory term ‘bodice ripper’ and tends to be dismissed as a light, fluffy read.

While it is true that some books are short on accurate historical detail and long on melodrama, here at HerStory Books, we try to stay true to the period of time in which our characters are set. After all, if you want to write a modern romance, go right ahead. Just don’t try to put modern characters, with all their sensibilities, into an historical setting, and expect the reader to be satisfied.

So, what makes a great historical romance?

First of all, the romance. The hero and heroine falling in love.
